There is no one Content Management System is better than another, it’s just depends on your requirements. Either is WordPress, Joomla or Drupal, all of these three are a great CMS that are globally used to create enticing, gorgeous and functional websites. While these three of them have a lot in common they still have tons of advantages and disadvantages alike that associated with each other. There are certain things you need to think about when choosing CMS for your websites such as development, theming, cost, features & future. Let's have brief over view about each of them.

WordPress

WordPress is globally most famous CMS, around 76.4M websites are powered by WordPress, with 160M of downloads. WordPress have over 3000 of themes & prodigious amount Of free plugins. WordPress started as platform exclusively for blogging, but has grown to be used as full CMS system and so much more through the thousands of plugins, themes & widgets. With only 5 minutes of installation time & you don't have of be geek or an erudite in field of web building. Some of the most famous websites such as tech crunch, CNN, TIME & Mashable are based on WordPress.

WordPress most widely used for blogging, portfolio purpose, and news/magazine websites & business websites.

  • User friendly
  • Very responsive
  • Offers a great SEO integration

Cons:

  • WordPress sites not most user friendly for mobile sites (until have some good hosting services).

Joomla

Joomla is open source software, been targeted towards more experienced website developers, chose by developers who care less about the product's overall look, but most user like Joomla for its model view controller. Around 2.8M of total websites runs on Joomla included few famous websites of Harvard University, Linux and McDonald. with 50M downloads which is 13% of total market share making it world's second most popular CMS added with +1000 themes and 5000 of plugins. It only takes 10 minutes to set up Joomla and yeah compare to WordPress its a bit complex.

  • Great CMS for Ecommerce websites
  • Most preferred by developer community
  • For various extension (just like WP have plugins)

Cons:

  • Advanced in structure so complex to program and set up.
  • Skilled Joomla programmers required.
  • Compare to wordPress & Drupal, Joomla have less plugins and themes.

Drupal

Launched by Dreisbuytaert, in 2001. Drupal is made for websites, have titanically large amount of incoming user traffic and suitable for large business websites.

Drupal is one of the toughest CMS compare to WordPress and Joomla as it requires expertise and certain skills. It is also capable of producing the most advances and versatile websites with complex programming but with launching of each iteration Drupal is becoming easy to use.

Drupal consists of 26k of plugins, 2000+ of themes with 15M downloads, Drupal is 3rd most known CMSs globally. Around 764K websites runs on Drupal based CMS including famous sites like NBC.

Pros:

  • Drupal can be anything in terms of web developing. From simplest website to more complex and versatile websites. It can perform most of job that you require.
  • With right programming and web construction skills, Drupal makes their website very fast to load.

Cons:

  • An erudite programmer required.

Hence, Content management system can be varied according your purpose and requirement. It also depends upon various hosting services you are using. Most of them are highly integrated with various web apps, ecommerce website & website builder tools.

Let’s go to final conclusion now. Each of them is made for different purposes. If you are just beginner and you want to start your business website start with WordPress. But of you want something advanced and have Ecommerce website Joomla is right one for you requires a bit programming knowledge& Drupal is made for one who are already experts in terms of web developing. Each of them has their pros and cons that I described above. I would suggest you to start with WordPress though.
