CCITT: International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee

CCITT is an abbreviation of the "International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee".

It is a division of International Telecommunication Union (ITU), whose objective is to make sure the systematic and effective creation of principles and guidelines done at a favorable time at the same time as describing principles of tariff and accounting, these principles and guidelines are those which takes under the entire areas of telecommunications and Information Communication Technology (ICTs) according to the international level. The worldwide principles and guidelines created by the ITU-T are alluded to as "Recommendations". CCITT is one of the three divisions of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) renamed as Telecommunication Standardization Division (ITU-T); the other two divisions are Radio Communication Division (ITU-R) and the Telecommunication Development Division (ITU-D). The permanent administrative office of CCITT, the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB), is situated in the ITU headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

History

  • In 1956, International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (CCITT) were established by merging two consultative committees, International Telephone Services (CCIF) and International Telegraph Services (CCIT) by International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Both committees was originated and established in 1925 by ITU.
  • In 1993, CCITT was renamed as Telecommunication Standardization Division (ITU-T), one of the three divisions of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
  • As of January 2015, the present Director of the CCITT is Chaesub Lee, who has taken the position from Malcolm Johnson of the United Kingdom.

Progress and Growth of Recommendations

  • Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB) manages and organizes a number of events, workshops and seminars of ITU-T. It also manages sectors, which are in development phase and also consider sectors, which requires an upliftment of growth.
    The majority of the entire operations and functions of ITU-T are administered and controlled by its members of Sector and associates.
  • The Study group, which consists of the skilled professionals and specialist in the field of telecommunication around the world, administer and control the technical operations and functions of ITU-T and also the progress and growth of Recommendations.
  • The Focus group is a group established by ITU-T, which generally created and dissolved, exist for a short period of time, can increase number of experts in study group, according to the requirements of ICT Standardization and also can enable better resilience according to the participation and systems of processes of functioning.
