Indian Military Academy (IMA)

IMA is an abbreviation of the Indian Military Academy. It is an extremely regarded officer training academy of the Indian Army. As of September 4, 2017, Lieutenant General Sanjay Kumar Jha is the Commandant (officer in charge) of IMA. Its main Motto is "Valor and Wisdom".

Indian Military Academy History

  • In 1932, IMA was founded.
  • The first batch of IMA had 40 Gentlemen Cadets as trainees. These cadets were recognized as "PIONEERS".
  • The first Commandant of IMA was Brigadier L.P. Collins, DSO, OBE. In IMA, a trainee officer is referred to as a gentleman cadet.
  • The location of IMA is in the foothills of Himalayas, on National Highway 72, around 8km west of Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
  • The area covered by the academy is over 1400 acres of land.
  • The training is only given to the male candidates; transforms them into army officers.
  • The academy not only trains the candidates for the battleground but also makes available athletic amenities and services to prepare the future army officers.

Physical Standards to Join IMA

  • No symptoms of organ-related diseases
  • No skin disease
  • Abnormality should not detected in the urine sample
  • 2.4 km run in 10 minutes for men and 13 minutes 30 seconds for women

Indian Medical Association (IMA)

IMA is also an abbreviation of the Indian Medical Association. It is a nationwide voluntary organization of Doctors of Modern Scientific System of Medicine in India. It is a community of doctors registered under The Societies Act of India. Its most important work is to take care of the interests of doctors and welfare of the society. Dr. Anil Jain is the current National President of the Indian Medical Association, 2019-20.

  • In 1928, IMA was founded as the All India Medical Association.
  • In 1930, it was renamed Indian Medical Association.
  • In 1966, it organized the third World Conference on Medical Education in New Delhi.

In the present time, it is a well established and reputed organization. Its head office is situated in New Delhi and its branches in all states and union territories of India. More than 2, 15,000 doctors are members of IMA.
