IP: Internet Protocol

IP is an abbreviation of Internet Protocol which alludes to the mark or label provided over a computer network to every device that exchanges information through each other. It comprises of a 32-bit number. The two versions of IP addresses are, IPv4 and IPv6. Both the versions way of defining IP address is very distinct.

Why to Use IP Addresses?

To use IP address, the two reasons are,

Static and Dynamic IP Address

  1. Static:
    A static IP address is a permanent address that is allocated by an administrator and which is also fixed in a way to never change.
  2. Dynamic:
    A dynamic IP address is a temporary address which during accessing the internet every time changes its IP address. It is allocated by the host software.

Types of IP address

  1. Unicast IP Address:
    It makes a marked change in the information to a particular device over a network.
  2. Broadcast IP Address:
    Formerly, on a provided subnet it is used to transfer information to all the computers.
  3. Multicast IP Address:
    These are reserved IP addresses, which are used only for a particular group.
  4. Private IP Address:
    These are local addresses that are completely free to use and can be routed over the network and it is possible that one IP address can be used by more than one enterprise or organization.
  5. Public IP Address:
    They are distinctive and their replication is not feasible as a consequence they require to be bought.

Advantages of Static IP address

  • A static IP address makes it simple and uncomplicated for computers to find the server from anywhere in the world.
  • As Static IP addresses never change, it makes them more stable for the use of the Internet.
  • Static IP addresses are easier to allocate and maintain.
  • With a static IP address in a computer makes it much simpler and easier to track through the Internet.

Advantages of Dynamic IP address

  • The assigning of dynamic IP address and its network configuration are done much faster.
  • The dynamic IP address is easy to allocate, distribute, arrange and organize, which makes it very useful.
  • Dynamic IP administration is very helpful in saving time as there is no requirement to configure hundreds of computers by the user manually.
  • As an anonymous user, a dynamic IP address also helps a user to log in.
