ISI: Indian Standards Institute

ISI is an abbreviation of the Indian Standards Institute. It was founded to build standards for the systematic industrial expansion and development and preserving eminence in industrial production. It offers an ISI mark that shows the certified industrial product authenticity in India.

ISI History

On 6 January 1947, the ISI was founded and in June 1947, Dr. Lal C. Verman became the first Director of ISI. In the present time, ISI is now recognized as BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards). It examines and ensures the quality and standard of every product and offers them a certification mark. BIS is officially sanctioned to provide certification by the legislation of 1986. ISI mark is compulsory for certifying products to trade in the market of India.

ISI is also an abbreviation of Inter-Service Intelligence. It is an intelligence bureau agency in Pakistan. Its head office is situated in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. It is a leading intelligence service, which in charge of offering intelligence assessment and national security in Pakistan. The current Director-General executive of ISI is Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed.

ISI: Indian Statistical Institute

ISI is also an abbreviation of the Indian Statistical Institute. It is a university which is situated in Kolkata, West Bengal. The other branches of this university are situated in Delhi, Bangalore, Tejpur, and Chennai. On 17 December 1931, it was founded by Professor P.C. Mahalanobis in Kolkata.
