OT: Off Topic

OT is an abbreviation of "Off Topic"

It is an expression, which is commonly used in Gmail or messaging platform. It shows that the email that has been sent is irrelevant to the subject of the thread mail, to avoid the allegations of threadjacking.

Off Topic (OT) Example

Let us take an example to make it easy to understand.

In emails, if it is written:

OT in the reply of a particular mail, it means that the sent mail is irrelevant to the subject of the thread mail.

This shows that the mail has been unknowingly or knowingly been sent with either the wrong text or subject.

OT as a Replacement for Off Topic.

Now, these days, the demands of acronyms are very high on social media emails and texting, so the users usually use OT as a replacement for Off Topic.

So, in this way, the abbreviation OT is used mostly on the social media platform.

While this slang is very common in social media platforms, still many are unaware of this slang.

In the corporate industry too, these slangs are common and used in a very large manner. The industry itself likes those employees who are smart enough and stay updated with such digital languages which are familiar, easy and are good at time management.

OT Instead of Writing Off Topic

So, basically in emails if a topic goes irrelevant to the subject, you can just say OT instead of writing Off Topic. For all the technical people, it is easily understood by everyone.

OT is easier to use among the mailing system, but when it comes to social media chatting or messaging, it is not common. People mostly write the whole sentence instead of writing OT. Therefore, if you want to use this abbreviation, mostly use it in the email platform and not in a chatting platform.
