BOM: Byte Order Mark

BOM is an abbreviation of "Byte Order Mark".

It is used as a magic number at the beginning of a stream of text in the form of a special Unicode character, U+FEFF BYTE ORDER MARK. The character at the beginning of a stream of text is used to signal to the program, which is structured to connect through that magic number can signal byte order or endianness, specific Unicode character encoding, e.t.c.

Unicode character encoding is the process of encoding in units of bits integers the Unicode characters, which can be either in 8-bit, 16-bit, or 32-bit integers. In the case of 16-bit and 32-bit encodings, the system requires to be aware of the byte order in which integers encoded in because the sources from where the text is coming are random and the details regarding text are not clear. As same to the different types of documents, BOM also gets encoded in the corresponding systematic arrangement and if there is a process of swapping then the BOM turns out to be a non-character Unicode code point.

For this reason, devoid of the need for several contract or metadata from outsourcing of the text by itself, BOM can make an inspection and evaluate the given first small number of bytes to decide on the endianness.
