CAS: Column Address Select or Strobe

CAS is an abbreviation of "Column Address Select or Strobe".

It is a message signal, which is transmitted by the processor to dynamic random access memory (DRAM) to make operative the column address. In DRAM, data gets stored in a sequenced progression of rows and columns and that accumulated data stored in the format of a data bit in a cell placed by the intersection of a column address and a row address. In this transmission, a processor communicates the DRAM by using column address and row address signals to recover data from it. At the time when there is a requirement of data to the system, the signals are transmitted by the processor to make operative the row address to indicate the row the requirement of data, after that to make operative the column address to indicate the column the requirement of data. By the mutual collection of two signals trace the data, which is stored in the format of a data bit in a cell placed by the intersection of a column address and a row address in DRAM.
