CDDB: Compact Disc Database

CDDB is an abbreviation of the "Compact Disc Database".

It is a database, which contains information related to audio compact discs and can be tracked through applications or software on the internet. History

  • About the end of 1993, CDDB was originated and developed by Ti kan as a local database.
  • The first version of CDDB, version 1.1 launched at the end of February 1994.
    In 2000, the name of CDDB Inc. changed to Gracenote.
  • In March 2001, CDDB (Gracenote) legally prohibited those entire applications, which are legally not licensed but have access to its database.
  • In June 2008, the complete right of possession of CDDB (Gracenote) was taken by Sony Corp. of America.
  • In 2014, the CDDB (Gracenote) was procured by Tribune Media Services (TMS) from Sony.
  • In December 2016, it was resold by Tribune Media Services (TMS) to Nielsen.

Working of CDDB

  • The purpose of the creation of CDDB was to identify the complete compact discs with all the present data and information inside it.
