COMDEX: Computer Dealers' Exhibition
COMDEX is an abbreviation of the "Computer Dealers' Exhibition". It is a former computer expo trade show, which was introduced and organized by the Interface Group, initiated basically for dealers and distributors. It was conducted in the Las Vegas Valley of Nevada, United States. Globally, it was one of the leading computer trade shows also in any production field, generally second in comparison to the German CeBIT. During the period between 1979 and 2003, it was carried out each November.
COMDEX History
- In 1979, the foremost COMDEX was conducted at the MGM Grand in present known as Bally’s, with 167 exhibitors and 3904 attendees. It was organized by Sheldon Adelson, Robert Lively, and Richard Katzef of the Interface Group.
- In 1981, the first COMDEX/Spring was conducted in New York City.
- In 1995, it was acquired by the Japanese technology-based multinational Softbank Corporation.
- In 2001, it was acquired by the Key3Media association from Softbank Corporation.
- In 2003, after financial struggles, which occurred as the consequence of Key3Media's condition into a transitory bankruptcy, Key3Media came back again with a reformed name as Media Live International, Inc.
COMDEXvirtual
- In November 2010, COMDEXvirtual was introduced as an online platform at www.comdexvirtual.com for the dealers and distributors to participate in the computer expo trade show, from then onwards without physically meet or interact at any location.
- COMDEXvirtual 2010 at www.comdexvirtual.com was offered on request throughout May 17, 2011.
- On November 15 & 16, 2011, COMDEXvirtual came back again, with 4,300 attendees, and finally, in due course in 2012, it happened again.
