CSU/DSU: Channel Service Unit/Data Service Unit

CSU/DSU is an abbreviation of the "channel service unit/data service unit". It is digital communication-based hardware, which is used as a modem to change and transform the user data from the data terminal equipment (DTE) into a type, which is up to the standard to the WAN service provider broadcast connection. It merges the job role’s of both the Channel Service Unit (CSU) and the Data Service Unit (DSU), in which the channel service unit (CSU) is in charge of the association link to the telecommunication network, at the same time as the data service unit (DSU) is in charge for supervising and handling the communication with the DTE.
