CVE: Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures
CVE is an abbreviation of "Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures". The system of CVE makes available a record listing of CVE IDs, which gives a reference of publicly acknowledged information-security based vulnerabilities and security flaws disclosures. These CVE IDs are listed on MITRE's corporation system, in addition, to also in the US National Vulnerability Database.

CVE History

- CVE is maintained by the National Cybersecurity FFRDC, which is controlled and managed by the Mitre Corporation. It is financially supported by the National Cyber Security Division of the United States Department of Homeland Security.
CVE identifiers
CVE Identifiers are also known as "CVE names", "CVE numbers", "CVE-IDs", and "CVEs", which are distinctive, general identifiers for publicly acknowledged information-security based vulnerabilities and security flaws. They are listed in the software packages, which are launched openly in public. These CVEs are allotted in the record listing by a CVE Numbering Authority (CNA).
The CVE Numbering Authority (CNA) is classified into three main categories, which comprise:
- The Mitre Corporation is a chief CNA, which operates as Editor.
- A variety of CNAs is also available, which allot CVE numbers for their products such as Microsoft, Red Hat, etc.
- A third-party manager is also available, which possibly will allot CVE numbers for products and commodities that are not taken under for allotment by other CNAs, such as CERT Coordination Center.
