HTC: High Tech Computer

HTC is an abbreviation of "High Tech Computer".

Essentially, it is in earlier times known as High Tech Computer Corporation. In the present time, it is popular as HTC Corporation. It is a Taiwanese consumer electronics corporation best known for manufacturing smartphones and tablets.

In 1997, it was established by "Cher Wang" in Taiyuan City, Taiwan. Its head office is situated in Xindian District, New Taipei City, Taiwan.

The HTC Dream, promoted and advertised by T-Mobile in many countries as the T-Mobile G1, was the first phone in the market which runs the Android operating system. HTC makes smartphones with the android and window phone operating system both. It also makes PDA's. It’s in general builds a foundation design, confers it to codename and provides the device to be sold and rebranded by other companies.

In 2006, HTC began providing devices under its brand name. The most significant basis behind its recognition and reputation is that it offers a very smooth, shiny and attractive design with a great user interface.

  • In 1997, HTC was established to manufacture a new generation of personal digital assistance or smartphones.
  • In 2000, HTC has taken the contract to expand and manufacture a PDA for Compaq Corporation.
  • In 2001, HTC arrived at a contract with Microsoft Corporation to manufacture a new generation of mobile telephones.
  • In 2002, HTC launched its first smartphone and its first wireless Pocket PC.
  • In 2004, HTC obtained IA Style and its profits reached $1 billion.
  • In 2005, it turned out to be the first corporation to launch a smartphone-based on the new Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system.
  • In 2007, it acquired the Dopod International, a mobile-device company.
  • In 2008, HTC unveiled the HTC Max 4G, the first GSM mobile phone to support WiMAX networks.
  • On 21 September 2017, Google proclaimed that it would obtain approximately half of the 4,000 employees who worked in HTC's design and research staff, and non-exclusive licenses to smartphone-related intellectual property held by HTC, for US$1.1 billion.
  • On 17 September 2019, HTC was chosen as a CEO to Yves Maitre, former executive vice president of consumer equipment and partnerships of Orange.
