TVS is an abbreviation of Thirukkurungudi Vengaram Sundram. It is a multinational motorcycle business corporation, which is one of the largest manufacturers of motorcycles, mopeds, and auto-rickshaws in India. Thirukkurungudi Vengaram Sundram Iyengar was the founder of the TVS group. Accordingly, the name TVS arrives from his primary name Thirukkurungudi Vengaram Sundram. TVS head office is situated in Chennai. It is also listed in NSE and BSE.

TVS History

  • In 1911, T.V. Sundaram Iyengar established T.V.S, a company in the transportation business with a huge convoy of trucks and buses under the name of Southern Roadways and started with Madurai's first bus service.
  • In 1972, Sundaram Clayton was established in partnership with Clayton Dewandre Holdings, United Kingdom.
  • In 1980, TVS 50, India's first two-seater moped moved out of the industrial unit at Hosur in Tamil Nadu, Southern India.
  • In 2016, TVS began manufacturing the BMW G310R, a model co-developed with BMW Motorrad after their planned joint venture in April 2013.
  • On 6 December 2017, TVS introduced its most-awaited motorcycle, the Apache RR 310 in an event at Chennai.
