Scala program to demonstrate the List collection

Here, we are going to demonstrate the List collection in Scala programming language.

Scala – List Collection Example

Here, we will create lists using List collection. Then print elements on the list on the console screen.

The List collection is used to store ordered elements. It extends the LinearSeq trait and is used for the immutable linked list.

Scala code to demonstrate the example of List collection

The source code to create a sequence of integers, strings is given below. The given program is compiled and executed on the ubuntu 18.04 operating system successfully.

// Scala program to demonstrate List collection

import scala.collection.immutable._

object Sample {
  // Main method
  def main(args: Array[String]) {
    var intList = List(1, 3, 5, 7, 9);

    var strList: List[String] = List("hello", "hi", "bye");

    println("List of integers:");
    intList.foreach((item: Int) => print(item + " "));
    println();

    println("List of strings:");
    strList.foreach((item: String) => print(item + " "));
    println();
  }
}

Output

List of integers:
1 3 5 7 9
List of strings:
hello hi bye

Explanation

In the above program, we used an object-oriented approach to create the program. Here we imported Collection classes using below statement,

import scala.collection.immutable._

Here, we also created a singleton object Sample and defined the main() function. The main() function is the entry point for the program.

In the main() function, we created two lists intList, strList using List collection. Then we iterated the List using the foreach loop and printed the elements of lists on the console screen.
