Scala program to perform the union operation between two sets using bitwise OR (|) operator

Here, we are going to learn how to perform the union operation between two sets using bitwise OR (|) operator in Scala programming language?

Union of Two Scala Sets

Here, we will create two sets of integer numbers using the Set collection class. Then we will perform union operation using the Bitwise OR (|) operator and print the result on the console screen.

Scala code to find the union of two sets

The source code to perform union operation between two sets using Bitwise OR (|) operator is given below. The given program is compiled and executed on the ubuntu 18.04 operating system successfully.

// Scala program to perform union operation
// between two sets using bitwise or "|" operator

import scala.collection.immutable._

object Sample {
  // Main method
  def main(args: Array[String]) {
    var set1 = Set(10, 20, 30, 40, 50);
    var set2 = Set(70, 20, 50, 80, 90);

    var setUnion = set1 | set2;

    println(set1);
    println(set2);
    println(setUnion);
  }
}

Output

HashSet(10, 20, 50, 40, 30)
HashSet(20, 70, 80, 50, 90)
HashSet(10, 20, 70, 80, 50, 40, 30, 90)

Explanation

Here, we used an object-oriented approach to create the program. And, we imported Collection classes using below statement,

import scala.collection.immutable._

Here, we also created a singleton object Sample and defined the main() function. The main() function is the entry point for the program.

In the main() function, we created two sets set1 and set2 using Set collection class. Then we performed a union operation between two sets using the Bitwise OR (|) operator and printed the result on the console screen.
