AICTE: All India Council for Technical Education

AICTE is an abbreviation of the All India Council for Technical Education. It is a council at the national level for the education of technical and management in India. It is a constitutional part of the Government of India which has the right to schedule, planning and coordinating the progress of education in the technical field all through the country. Those colleges who run University affiliated Engineering and Management degree program, makes use this availability of agreement from AICTE. To open a new technical college, it is the only authority that makes available for use agreement for colleges.

AICTE History

In 1945, AICTE is formed to plan and support the expansion of technical education in India. Afterward, according to the 1987 Act, it gets the constitutional position. It's headquartered is in New Delhi and its regional offices are in Kolkata, Kanpur, Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Guwahati, Gurgoan and Bhopal.

Initiatives Taken by AICTE

Following are the three significant initiatives were taken up by AICTE in 2016,

  • MHRD gave a responsibility to develop a national MOOC platform SWAYAM.
  • AICTE introduced a Smart India Hackathon-2017, by giving the challenge to young brilliant talented students of technical colleges to solve the 598 problems of 29 different Government departments.
  • On Nov 16, AICTE introduced an AICTE's Student Startup Policy by Hon. President throughout the visitor’s conference from Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a formal public statement that the AICTE along with the University Grants Commission would be removed from service and replaced by a new agency council called Heera (Higher Education Empowerment Regulation Agency (HEERA) on June 6, 2017. This course of action has been completed in a proposition to make simpler the unnecessary regulations that subsist due to both these bodies.

  • It was formed to open, expand and support new technical institutes in India.
  • In technical institutes, it provides new courses as well as advanced courses.
  • It acknowledges the existence of colleges that provide a degree in engineering.
  • It is also accountable for the maintenance of technical standards, official approval of quality assurance and appraisal of technical education.
