EDGE: Enhanced Data Rates for GSM (Global System for Mobile) Evolution

EDGE is an abbreviation of Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution. It is an upgraded model of GSM and provides high speed internet 3G built on GSM. It is used to enable enhanced data communication transaction rates used on GSM network as a category of data system. It can send three times higher bits than GPRR in the same duration of time. EDGE cannot operate solitary; it operates as an "add-on" to GPRS. In 2003, in the United States it was installed on GSM networks by AT&T.
