USSR: Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

USSR is an abbreviation of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics which is also known as the Soviet Union was a federal sovereign state in northern Eurasia. USSR was a Marxist-Leninist state on the Eurasian continent that existed between 1922 and 1991. It was a previous country of northern Eurasia with coastlines on the Baltic and Black seas and the Arctic and Pacific oceans.

The country was a single party governed state, ruled and administered by the Communist Party in its largest republic, the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (Russian SFSR). Its government and economy were extremely centralized. Other most significant urban centers were Leningrad, Kiev, Minsk, Tashkent, Alma-Ata, and Novosibirsk. Its capital was Moscow.

USSR was a federal union of 15 constituent republics and with an area of 22,402,200 square kilometers (8,649,500 sq mi), was the world's largest country and it covers over 10,000 kilometers (6,200 mi) east to west across 11 time zones, and over 7,200 kilometers (4,500 mi) north to south. Its territory comprised much of Eastern Europe, as well as part of Northern Europe and all of Northern and Central Asia. It had five climate zones: tundra, taiga, steppes, desert, and mountains.

History

  • In 1917, the Soviet Union has established its roots when the Bolsheviks led by Vladimir Lenin, led the October Revolution which defeated the provisional government that had substituted the Tsar.
  • On 7 November 1917, the Red Guards attacked the Winter Palace in Petrograd, concluding the regulation of the Provisional Government and sending-off all political power to the Soviets. This occurrence would afterward be officially known in Soviet bibliographies as the Great October Socialist Revolution.
  • On 28 December 1922, a conference of plenipotentiary delegations from the Russian SFSR, the Transcaucasian SFSR, the Ukrainian SSR, and the Byelorussian SSR accepted and permitted the Treaty on the Creation of the USSR and the Declaration of the Creation of the USSR, making the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
    The USSR continued to apprehend scientific and technological exploits in the Space Race.
  • In 1957, USSR launched the first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1.
  • In 1968, the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact partnership occupied Czechoslovakia to stop the progress of the Prague Spring reforms.
  • In 1991, the majority of the continuant republics stated and confirmed their independence and Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was officially dissolved.
