WWW: World Wide Web

WWW is an abbreviation of the World Wide Web. It is also called a Web. The World Wide Web is a collection of an order of all the websites linked to the internet worldwide. It is a system of information where connected hypertext documents and resources accessed through the internet. A webpage can be accessed by a user through the use of a web browser and a user can traverse between the web pages by using hyperlinks in which a web page may carry texts, images, and other multimedia contents and data.

  • Internet Explorer
  • Safari
  • Netscape Navigator etc.

These web browsers are also accessible for smartphones and other multimedia devices.

History

On 12 March 1989, WWW was created by Tim Berners-Lee. He was a British computer scientist and while working on the World Wide Web, he was employed at CERN. In 1990, the first web browser was written by Tim Berners-Lee, who used the NeXt Computer as a world's first web server.

Advantages

  • With the use of Web resources and mobile phone applications, people are reporting and communicating on social media such as Twitter, Facebook, etc, and reading about incidents and events as the events happen.
  • The Web is available everywhere in the World and people have access to it, very simply. This enables people in the present time to book a hotel, cab, vacation trips, tickets, etc.
  • On the Web, through search engines, it is easily accessible to guides and reviews, which makes easier the pursuit for information.
  • On the Web, links enable people to proceed easily from one information on the Web page to associated information somewhere else on the same page, on the same website or on a different website intermediate with all sides of the world.

Disadvantages

  • Issues of cyberbullying, with people sharing personal and private information on the web, make stalkers and hackers less strenuousness in finding their personal information through numerous means.
  • Playing games on the web or Surfing can rapidly become very compulsive.
  • Computer hackers and users who are malicious can hack profiles, accounts and can take without any authentication or authorization any personal information data because of access to billions of computers that could be used for a spot out theft.
  • Enormous scale increase in digital advertising, increased more spam mails in user's inbox than junk mail files in real life.
