Java program to suspend a thread

Java example to suspend a thread.
Submitted by Nidhi, on April 09, 2022

Problem Solution:

In this program, we will create a thread with the runnable interface. Then we will create multiple threads. Here we will suspend a thread using the suspend() method.

Program/Source Code:

The source code to suspend a thread is given below. The given program is compiled and executed successfully.

// Java program to suspend a thread

class MyThread implements Runnable {
  public void run() {
    try {
      Thread.sleep(500);
      System.out.println(Thread.currentThread().getName());
    } catch (Exception e) {

    }
  }
}

public class Main {
  public static void main(String[] args) {
    Thread t1 = new Thread(new MyThread());
    Thread t2 = new Thread(new MyThread());
    Thread t3 = new Thread(new MyThread());

    t1.start();
    t2.start();
    t2.suspend();
    t3.start();
  }
}

Output:

Thread-0
Thread-2

Explanation:

In the above program, we created two classes MyThread and Main. We created MyThread class by implementing the Runnable interface.

The Main class contains a main() method. The main() method is the entry point for the program. Here, we created three threads and started all threads one by one. Here, we suspended the t2 thread using suspend() method.
