Scala program to calculate the area of the circle

Here, we are going to learn how to calculate the area of the circle in Scala programming language?

Problem Solution:

Here, we will read the radius of the circle from the user and calculate the area of the circle. After that, we will print the result on the console screen.

Program/Source Code:

The source code to calculate the area of the circle is given below. The given program is compiled and executed on the ubuntu 18.04 operating system successfully.

// Scala program to calculate the area of circle

object Sample{  
    def main(args:Array[String]){  
        var radius:Float=0
        var area:Float=0
        
        print("Enter radius: ")
        radius=scala.io.StdIn.readFloat()
        
        //Caculate the area of circle
        area = 3.14F * radius * radius
        
        println("Area of circle: "+area)
    }  
}

Output:

Enter radius: 4.2
Area of circle: 55.389595

Explanation:

In the above program, we used an object-oriented approach to create the program. Here, we created an object Sample. We defined main() function. The main() function is the entry point for the program.

In the main() function, we created two float variables radius, area, that are initialized with 0. Then we read the value of radius from the user and calculate the area of the circle. After that, we printed the result on the console screen.
