Scala – Bitwise XOR (^) Operator Example

Here, we will read two integer numbers from the user and perform the BITWISE XOR (^) operation. After that, we will print the result on the console screen.

Scala code to demonstrate the example of bitwise XOR (^) operator

The source code to demonstrate the BITWISE XOR (^) operation is given below. The given program is compiled and executed on the ubuntu 18.04 operating system successfully.

// Scala program to demonstrate the
// "BITWISE XOR" (^) operation

object Sample{
    def main(args:Array[String]){
        var number1:Int=0
        var number2:Int=0
        var result:Int=0

        print("Enter number1: ")
        number1=scala.io.StdIn.readInt()

        print("Enter number2: ")
        number2=scala.io.StdIn.readInt()

        result = number1 ^ number2

        println("Result: "+result)
    }
}

Output

Enter number1: 6
Enter number2: 2
Result: 4

Explanation

In the above program, we used an object-oriented approach to create the program. Here, we created an object Sample. We defined main() function. The main() function is the entry point for the program.

In the main() function, we created three integer variables number1, number2, result that are initialized with 0. Then we read the value of the number1 and number2 variable from the user and then we performed the BITWISE XOR (^) operation between both numbers and printed the result on the console screen.

Evaluation of BITWISE XOR operation

Now evaluate the expression,

result = number1 ^ number2
result = 6 | 2

The binary equivalent of 6 is 0110.
The binary equivalent of 2 is 0010.

Then

0110
0010
====
0010

That is 2.

At last, we printed the value of result on the console screen.
