Getting the size of an existing file in bytes in Golang

Problem Solution:

In this program, we will get the size of the existing file in bytes and print the result on the console screen.

Program/Source Code:

The source code to get the size of the existing file in bytes is given below. The given program is compiled and executed successfully.

Golang code to get the size of an existing file in bytes

// Golang program to get the size of the
// existing file in bytes

package main

import "os"
import "fmt"

func main() {
	MyFile, err := os.Stat("Sample.txt")
	if err != nil {
		fmt.Println("File does not exist")
	}

	fmt.Println("Size of file in bytes: ", MyFile.Size())
}

Output:

Size of file in bytes: 11

Explanation:

In the above program, we declare the package main. The main package is used to tell the Go language compiler that the package must be compiled and produced the executable file. Here, we imported the fmt, os packages then we can use a function related to the fmt and os package.

In the main() function, we get the file pointer MyFile using os.State() for the existing file and then we get the size of the file in bytes using the Size() function. After that, we printed the result on the console screen.
