Golang program to sort a slice of strings in ascending order

Here, we are going to learn how to sort a slice of strings in ascending order in Golang (Go Language)?
Submitted by Nidhi, on March 16, 2021

Problem Solution:

In this program, we will create a slice and then sort slice elements using the sort.Strings() function and then print sorted slice on the console screen.

Program/Source Code:

The source code to sort a slice of strings in ascending order is given below. The given program is compiled and executed successfully.

// Golang program to sort slice of strings
// in ascending order

package main

import "fmt"
import "sort"

func main() {
	slice := []string{"honesty ", "is ", "the ", "best ", "policy"}

	sort.Strings(slice)

	fmt.Println("Sorted slice: ")
	for _, item := range slice {
		fmt.Printf("%s ", item)
	}
}

Output:

Sorted slice:
best  honesty  is  policy the

Explanation:

In the above program, we declare the package main. The main package is used to tell the Go language compiler that the package must be compiled and produced the executable file. Here, we imported the fmt package that includes the files of package fmt then we can use a function related to the fmt package.

In the above program, we also imported the sort package to use Strings() function to sort integer slice.

In the main() function, we created a slice of strings, then we sorted elements of the slice using the Strings() function of the sort package. After that, we printed the result on the console screen.
