How to truncate the data of the file in Golang?

Problem Solution:

In this program, we will remove the data of the file, except the first specified number of bytes using os.Truncate() function.

Program/Source Code:

The source code to truncate the data of the file is given below. The given program is compiled and executed on the ubuntu 18.04 operating system successfully.

Golang code to truncate the data of the file

// Golang program to truncate the data
// of the file

package main

import "fmt"
import "os"

func main() {
	err := os.Truncate("Sample.txt", 5)
	if err != nil {
		fmt.Println("Unable to truncate file")
	}
	fmt.Println("File truncated successfully")
}

Output:

File truncated successfully

Explanation:

In the above program, we declare the package main. The main package is used to tell the Go language compiler that the package must be compiled and produced the executable file. Here, we imported the fmt, os packages then we can use a function related to the fmt and os package.

In the main() function, we removed data from an existing file, except the specified number of characters in os.Truncate() function. Here, we pass 5 in os.Truncate() function. It means, it will remove data from the file, except starting 5 characters in the file.
