What is Trim Command?

The Trim command in AutoCAD performs the function of a scissor in a real-world scenario. Trim command trims the object to meet the edges of other objects. This command is used to remove unwanted objects from the workspace as per the user's requirement. Sometimes, the user might create additional objects which he thinks are not necessary for the later part of the design. During those situations, the trim command comes in handy for the user.

How to Enable Trim Command?

The two standard methods of enabling the trim command are explained below:

  1. First Method:
    In this method, the command is enabled by clicking on the icon shown below which is present in the ribbon panel.

  2. Second Method:
    It is an alternative method in which the command is enabled by typing TR in command line.

Concept of Trim Command with an Example

Now, let us understand the concept of this command easily with the aid of examples for more clarity about it.

  • In this figure shown below, some portions of the circle exceed the edges of the rectangle. So, it is necessary for the user to trim those two portions so that the design made as per the requirement.

  • Select the objects that are needed to be removed from the current design and press enter.

  • Thus, the trim command is used to remove the unwanted objects.
